How does your media product represent particular social groups?

How does your media product represent particular social    groups?

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When making our title sequence i have learnt a lot about using technologies and using new techniques when editing and filming.

Firstly when we done our first shoot we got the experience of shooting and we realised it would be good to do the same scene but in a number of different shots so when you edit it you have a variety to pick from and not just a limited option that you dot know if it will work or not. A time that this was beneficial for us was when our killer ( Harry ) was sitting down on the table flicking through the book and moving his neck. This allowed our editor ( Max ) to cut the clips up and stick them in different places mid action.

As in charge of Mise-en-scene i fount that we needed a contrast between the killer and the detective which was me. We needed to make sure the audience understood the good vs the evil and we represented this through a number of ways. For example for the killer scene we needed a dark setting with lowkey lighting and dangerous objects such as knives. The dark lowkey lighting links to the fact that when you think of evil you think of the darkness. For this when our cinematographer ( Tommy ) was filming me and Max stood either side of the camera and used our phone for slight lighting on different body parts on our killer. Furthermore when we done the detective scene we needed a conference room so we booked out the English office and filmed in there. Originally we done it in the conference room near reception, however when looking back on the footage when we was going to edit we fount that the footage wasn't very good and it was unfocused, also we were told that it was too bright and we needed it a bit darker. So this time we closed the blinds slightly so that it wasn't too bright and on that day it wasn't very sunny anyway so we had a bit of luck when shooting. It was a lot more lighter than the killer scene to show the contrast from good vs evil which we wanted.

Furthermore, when Max was editing we all learnt a lot from the new software that was introduced to us called 'motion.' As max is experienced in editing he picked up on the software very quickly. He made our title '4Days Later' and it looked really good. However we decided to use another font that we used after because we thought it suited our scene more.

Now having experienced what i have experienced throughout this process i feel have adapted new skills that will benefit me in the future when making films etc.

mise-en-scen killer scene

                                 Mise-en-scene killer

For our killer (Harry) we wanted him to look very tatty and dirty and bloody. The costume he wore was black jeans, big brown boots and a bloody shirt.

we also got dirt and rubbed it into his hands and mixed it with fake blood to look as if he'd just killed someone. WE done this because we really wanted to get tat gritty look and emphasise the point that he is a killer.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The studio we chose for our film was 'Warner Brothers.' This is because they distribute films with the same genres ours and we needed a big conglomerate to distribute our film out to appeal to a mass audience, and knowing all the success that Warner Brothers have had, we thought that this would be the best option because we know that it will be distributed and marketed to the best it can.

In addition to this our director Matin Scorsese has directed a number of successful Warner Brother films such as, 'GoodFellas', 'The departed' and 'The Aviator.' Two of these films also star our main character 'Leonardo DiCaprio.' This is good because it creates good chemistry in the working environment, and having all worked together before things will run more smoothly and everyone will be more comfortable with each other meaning there will be a greater outcome. In addition to this our main character which is played by 'Leonardo DiCaprio' has huge star power so we already have a pre sold audience as he has a massive fan base, but our plan is to appeal to as much people as we can and make the most money we can so having a big actor an a big conglomerate is vital to the success of the film.

Furthermore, Warner Brothers have also released award winning films that are the same genre as ours such as 'Syriana' and 'The Accountant'. These films had huge success and great reviews from critics and we believe ours will be the same. In addition to this J.K Simmons starred in 'The Accountant' so one of our actors already has experience in working in our chosen company.

In conclusion our first choice was Warner Brothers because they are a big conglomerate that can distribute our film well and also our actors and director have worked within this studio before a number of times.

what would i change?

                                 What would i change?

If i could change anything about the title sequence it would probably be the mise-en-scen aspect to things. This is because we didn't really put much thought into the costume side of it. For my detective scene i could of wore a shirt and tie which would of been more formal and with harry he could of wore a mask or clothes that would be ripped and tattered, these would both emphasise our characters. Further more it would be to find out what we really want straight away and always check the footage properly so that we don't have to keep going back and re shooting which really cuts in our time.

second screening

                         Second screening of title sequence

mise en scene for detective scene

                           Mise-en-scene for detective scene

When doing the detective scene i played as the detective and during this shoot we needed to emphasise the binary opposition. Having already shooting and editing the killer scene we knew what shots we had to do but we also knew which lighting should be used to clearly show the difference between the two characters which is good vs evil. In addition to this the costume i had on was very formal which was a suit and my hair was combed over, this made me look appropriate for the role. For props i had a brief case to emphasise the formality of my character and we printed out pictures and put them on the table for me to look at.

using motion

                               Experimenting with motion

Motion is a new programme that was recently added in to the schools server so we thought it would be wise to experiment with it and see how it works. With ax being our editor he tried it out and he said that its not hard to work at all its pretty straight forward and because he edits a lot and uses other programmes he caught on to it quickly. We used motion to try edit our fonts and make them better. We were successful as we got the font we liked and edited it so it matched our sequence.

Fonts

                                             Fonts

For our updated version of our title sequence we used the same font which is 'Mistral.' Although in the feedback we were told that maybe a different font should be used, we felt that no other fonts suited our scene. In addition to this we thought that it suited our scene really well.

re shooting investigation scene

                            Re-shooting the investigation scene

When re-shooting our investigation scene we used mostly the same angles and shots as what we done before but this time we made sure it was more clearer but we also added in some new shots what we thought would be better after watching over the last footage. We booked out the English staff room this time instead of the conference room because it has better natural lighting which suits our sequence more.

final edit of title sequence

feedback 2

Feedback 2

In todays lesson we got feedback for our last showing of our title sequence. The feedback was mostly positive with people saying they really liked the editing and the contrast between the good and the evil which is what we wanted.

Specific bits of editing that people liked was the typography. Unlike most of the groups our text made its way on to the screen instead of just appearing and went off in different directions which worked very well. Another thing they liked was at the end our soundtrack had a lot of drums and with every beat our title of the film appeared a letter at a time in sync with the beat. Another thing which the class really liked was our shot of harry and the strobe light. We put Harry infant of the strobe light and turn the lights off in the room and we just let it flash and filmed it and it outlined Harrys body which was really cool because it suited our genre perfectly.

However, there are some parts that we could improve on. We didn't get enough footage for the detective scene so were doing more soon so in the sequence that we presented there was a black screen for about three seconds where there should be another shot. Furthermore we were told that the font was ok but wasn't that good and we can find much better fonts to suit our sequence.

Completed soundtrack

Completed Soundtrack

The soundtrack is now fully completed and we based our footage around the ups and downs of the song which was much easier for us to do and for Max to edit.

Soundtrack

In todays lesson me and Harry started off making our soundtrack for our title sequence. At first we added in some dark orchestral instruments to set the scene and represent the genre. This goes on for about 20 seconds then we bring in some melody which is the cellos. This speeds up the process and gets the audience thinking something is happening. We then add in a drug kit, this is the part where its leading up to a major bit in our title sequence.

We then cut up some of the loops to build suspension and create more of an eery atmosphere.

catch me if you can title sequence

'Catch Me If You Can' Title Sequence:

I will be analysing the title sequence from the 2002 film directed by Steven Spielberg starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hanks.

This particular title sequence is very different to others in the sense that if you have watched the film already, you would know that it establishes the narrative throughout the sequence which is very unique.

The sequence starts off with a blue background and in writing says 'Dream Works Presents.' Dream works is the studio that has produced the film so it already establishes that straight away which is very conventional of a title sequence. An animated character then walks on the screen and as he walks on the writing changes to 'A kemp Company and Splendid Pictures Production.' This is just telling us the other production companies involved to help make the film.
In addition to this we can see that there are planes in the background which can insinuate that maybe someone is trying to get away. There is also another character that appears with a bag and a hat and the other character is looking at him r her from a distance almost as if he is going to get him/her.

It then goes on to show the directors name 'Steven Spielberg' this is important as the director deserves his credit and also he has massive star power so it draws more attention into it. After this the name changes to the main characters name 'Leonardo DiCaprio' and has an arrow pointing down at the character telling us that the animated character is Leonardo DiCaprio. so this establishes character already and brings in a mass audience because he has a lot of star power.

After this it goes into a close up of Leonardo Dicaprio's chapter and he jumps past a line and changes into a hat and has a bag. It then pans out and shows someone on the opposite side who is a lot bigger and he is reading a paper. The person then looks over at Leonardo DiCaprio who is facing the way an arrow is insulting he is trying to get out. While this is happening the name ' Tom Hanks' appears' and has an arrow pointing at the bigger person telling us that he is Tom Hanks. This size difference may infer that 'Tom Hanks' has more power in the film.

studio

                                                Studio

We had many studios in mind to fund our film such as Universal, and other independent studios it the one we have chosen is Warner Brothers. This is because Warner Brothers are known to have produced successful Thriller/ crime films. In addition to this the studio has the funds to make this film as our budget is a hefty £85,000,000.

next shoot

                                   Planning our next shoot

For our next shoot we are gong to rebook out the conference room. We are doing this because when we went the first time we had to go back and forth to get new batteries for the camera because all the battery were dead or really low so we had very minimal time to film so therefor we are going back to get more shots. Also we didn't get to get one of the shots we really needed because there was something wrong with the camera and it wouldn't focus. We needed it to focus on the shot we got of me looking at he investigation and also it probably didn't help that the pictures we printed out were slightly blurry so next time we go were going to have all of this stuff ready.

release of film

                                     Release of our film

Our film is not exactly the right genre and a massive huge budget film to be a summer blockbuster so we decided the right time for our film to be released would be the easter holidays. This is because our target audience would be on a holiday from school, college or university so its more likely for them to go to the cinema to go watch it as nothing would be going on. Also this is right before award ceremonies for films so we have a bigger chance of winning a prize.

audience profile

                                     Audience profile

As our film is a thriller our target audience would be teenagers and young adults, this is because thrillers normally have an age restriction and people at this age are mature enough to watch it and also they are also thrill seekers swell so its a perfect match. Our secondary audience would have to be adults that are 30 plus this is because it can't be below the age restriction, however i do feel that alot of adults would watch this so they could be considered as the primary audience aswell.

photos

Children photos used for investigation shoot

Tommy collected some baby pictures of him and a few of his friends that looked like it would be on an investigation board.

feedback

                                             Feedback

In todays we lesson we showed our first screenings of our title sequences which didn't go swell as we wanted simply because Max didn't have the footage to edit until last minute. However we was able to put some together although it aint no where near our potential and won't be no where near the quality of our final piece. The class saw the potential that we had and gave us some feedback.

Genre

                                            Genre

Genre is a style or category of art, music or literature. A films genre description is a good way of telling the audience if it would appeal to them or not.

Because of the narrative of our film we have decided that our genre is thriller based. Thriller films have an exciting plot and usually involve some sort of crime in them involving a mystery.

The good thing about thriller is that it catches the audiences eye instantly and usually has avery well thought out plot to the film which makes it more interesting. There are usually loads of tension build ups throughout the film to keep the audience engaged. Typically within a thriller there is usually a limit against the protagonist that he has to beat otherwise something devastating will happen making the antagonist come out on top. But a large part of the thriller genre is the protagonist using intellect and research to work out the mystery that needs to be solved.

The protagonists job in a thriller genre film is to create peace or solve a disruption in society made from the antagonist. This can seem similar to a superhero film but there are other elements of thriller that makes it stand out such as the mis-en-scan side, usually there is a lot more low-key lighting representing evil and an era mystery.

similar films

                                        Similar films

The Bone collector (1999) - Directed by Phillip Noyce.

This film is very similar to ours in the sense that the protagonist is put under pressure and tension builds up as they have a small time frame to save someones life from a cold blooded killer. The film uses a ticking clock scenario to build up tension which is key for any thriller film.

Shutter Island (2010) - Starring Leonardo DiCaprio - Directed by Martin Scorsese.

This film is also similar to ours in thew sense that the topic of murder is being investigated on so certain techniques of camera angles and mise-en-scene would be the same.

Narrative

Narrative

They notice that no kids live on the street but at first don't think nothing of it, although they begin to think its strange. The Dad finds out from a neighbour that kids have been going missing on this street for years but he thinks that it's all rubbish. One night the young son Jacob wakes up to the noise of pebbles being thrown at his window, he wakes up to see what it is and theres a tall man who is completely pitch black standing on the other side of the road and he disappears when a car drives past. Strange things keep on happening like he realises everything in his room has been moved and another time his window is wide open with foot prints in his room.

Disequilibrium:
Aaron is told about the murders in depth and finds out the kid is killed exactly 4 days after the child goes missing. A few days later his youngest son Jacob goes missing and he knows he only has a short amount of time to save him before he dies. He goes to the police station but the only evidence there is are pictures of Jacob with his eyes scribbled out, However from past experience of being a detective he takes it into his own hands to find his son Alive.

Attempt to repair:
Aaron finds where Jacob is but is stuck left to fight the killer. Thinking he is dead Aaron returns with his son alive.

New equilibrium:
When he arrives home to move he finds the door wide open and his oldest son Connor Dead hanging from a tree in the back garden.

budget

                                                   Budget

From researching Into similar films to ours and looking at the budget we saw that budget for our type of thriller films range from around £30,000,000 to £90,000,000. So from this we all decided a reasonable price for our film would be £85,000,000, this is taking in account to all the props and miss-en-scene elements needed. Also in addition to this we have widely known actors in our film so they bring a large pre sold audience already so this allows us to have a large budget.

                                              Director

For the director we have chosen Martin Scorsese. We have chosen him because we feel that he is the man best for the job directing similar films to ours such as 'Suture Island' and 'Silence.' In addition to this he is a very well respected director and loved across the world so him himself brings a pre sold audience because all of his fans want to see his new work. He has also done films with Leonardo DiCaprio before so there is good chemistry there in the work place between the two which would mean everyone would feel more comfortable when working and there is less likely to be Dramas.

Film Casting

Dad-
Description: USERS:kellyg:Desktop:Unknown-1.jpegFor the dad we have chosen Leonardo DiCaprio. The reason we have chosen Leonardo DiCaprio to be the dad is because he is of that age and looks like a father figure so his age and face suits the character for our film. Another reason we have chosen Leonardo DiCaprio is because he has been in many thriller films before such as The Revenant, Shutter Island and The Departed so adapting to the role should be no issue as he done similar things before and is really good at it. Furthermore another reason we have chosen it is because he has worked with our director a number of times( Martin Scorsese) so they have really good chemistry, which will be very helpful when being in the working environment. In addition to this he has a large following so he brings a lot of star power to the table meaning there will already be a massive pre sold audience.
Description: USERS:kellyg:Desktop:Unknown-2.jpeg

Eldest Son- For the eldest son we have chosen Tom Holland. The reason we have chosen Tom Holland is because he is a very diverse up and coming actor who has proved himself during the audition process. He has recently been in the new Spiderman movies playing Spiderman so he brings a new and relatively young audience to the table. He has also been in other thriller films such as ‘Edge Of Winter’ and ‘The Lost City Of Z.’ Furthermore he is the right build and height and shape when we imagined the character in the first place so he suits the role very well.

Description: USERS:kellyg:Desktop:Unknown-3.jpegYoungest Song- For the youngest son we have chosen Jacob Tremblay. The reason we have chosen Jacob Tremblay is because he is a young actor around about the same age as the character in the film so it is a perfect match. As well as this he is a very talented young man who has acted in Sci Fi thriller films before such as ‘Shut In’ and ‘Room.’

Description: USERS:kellyg:Desktop:Unknown-4.jpegKiller- For the killer we have chosen J.K Simmons. We have chosen J.K Simmons because he suits the role in the way he looks and his size etc. He is a very experienced and well-known actor so he brings in a pre sold audience already.
In this lesson we looked at what typography we should use so we looked up on DaFont to find a font that suits our genre and the pice itself. Here are some of the fonts we looked at
We thought that this font suited the piece, however we thought that it didn't stand out as much as we liked.

We thought this one was very good and suited the piece really well because of it fading await the edges so it suited it nicely however we feel its more horror than thriller.

We liked this font because it stood out and was bold and also suited the piece aswell.

I am going to experiment with some fonts on photoshop to see if i can edit any to make them look more suited to our genre and exactly the way we want it.
In this lesson we booked out the conference room above our school reception for the detective side of our title sequence.

When doing this we played around with a lot of ideas and angles which we thought would work like a shot of me walking down the corridor with a brief case in my hand looking stressed and walking in to my office. We thought this shot would be necessary because it establishes the setting of that character especially. In addition to this we were kind of lucky seeing that it was a very bright and sunny day so when we were in the conference room it was nice and bright so when we edit the two together ( the detective and the killer) the lighting of each piece can represent there personality. The killer being dark and representing evil and the detective bright representing the good in society.

In this conference room there was also a a notice board so we could pin our pictures of the victims and suspects and stuff to look like an investigation board so we got a close up of that.

We also got a birds eye view shot of me sitting down looking at pictures then swiping them off the table because i had a burst of anger.

first editing

In todays lesson we started editing our title sequence. We already have a fair ammount of footage which is very helpful to get us started and once we finsished the editing for this first bit then we can go on to get more shots to suit the piece. So at first all we done was cut the footage up and got the pieces we liked and put them in order.

                                           Questionnaire

I asked my family and friends questions that relates to our genre of Thriller and the outcome will determine what we should do or add to make the genre clearer.

After receiving these results we have a good idea on what to include. We fount out that soundtrack plays a huge part in int and it needs to be eerie and gloomy. We were also gold it'll be a good idea to take ideas from Se7en.

planning next shoot

                                  Planning Our Next Shoot

Tommy emailed Mr John Taylor in regards to use the conference rooms for our title sequence.

The bit we specifically we want to do is the investigation bit where we have an investigation board as well. We thought that these conference rooms will be the best for our scene because they are very formal and look similar to an investigation room.

In this bit of the sequence i will be playing as the investigator and our idea for the shots we want is basically me looking at the investigation board. Also there will be some shots of me with my head in my hands in disbelief to exaggerate the point of a murder which will be effective. We as a group feel that this is effective because it shows both the good and the bad throughout the title sequence with the evil being the killer which i have already explained and me the investigator, so for this we will use different lighting to emphasise the point of each character.

Second shoot

Today we done the second shoot for our title sequence.

In this lesson we went over a few shots that we done before and also got some more footage to help us out. We went over the shot of Harry flicking the page, but we done it differently, We done it where the camera is at the other end of the table and it slowly moves up beside him but not showing his face. This helped build up tension. We also got a strobe light and put it behind Harry, turned all the lights off and had the strobe light flashing and it would show the outline of Harrys body which was very effective and looked mysterious and creepy to match the genre of our film. Another shot we done was we had a shot of Harrys shoes which we thought suited the rest of the sequence and we put it up at the beginning.

First shoot

Today we started shooting for our title sequence, we already had a planned out idea of what we were going to  do which made it a lot easier so all we had to do was rent out the camera and get straight to work.

We used one of the Drama rooms that was available and we got a singular table and put a brown cloth over it. Harry played the killer and brought in the fake blood that we needed. I brought in two fake knives that we used as props and put the fake blood over it. Harry made a book for the killer where he puts all of his victims in and he tattered it up and made it look really gritty and horrible.

The first shots we wanted to get was an over the shoulder shot of Harry flicking the pages over in the book. We got this shot from a few different angles to see which one was more effective. We then got a few shots of Harrys hands tapping the table and of him moving his neck around to create an uneasy feeling.

First screening

In todays lesson we had our first screenings of our title sequence.

Wednesday, 22 February 2017

                                    Children pictures:

In todays we lesson as a group our idea was to gather pictures of children to put in a book for our title sequence. Some of the pictures are of members of our group and some of the pictures are off of google. We also had to get a picture of a map which we fount on google as well.

                              Love Actually Title Sequence:

In todays lesson we watched and analysed the title sequence from the film 'Love Actually.' The film follows the lives of eight different couples in with dealing with their love lives in various loosely interelated all set during a frantic month before christmas in London, England.

The sequence starts off with a tracking shot on a specific character walking to hug their partner. This establishes setting and tells us that they are in some form of relationship. It also establishes the narrative in a way that we know that the film will include relationships and love with is ironic because of the title 'Love Actually.' It then cuts to a woman who holds her arms out to hug her children and it zooms in on one of the little girls face to show the expression of 'happiness' or 'love.' Also this is all actual people, there are no actors so we get more of a realistic view. A few cuts later we see a woman jumping in joy running towards family members. This shows that she is happy to see her loved ones.

Furthermore the soundtrack is very simple with some strings faintly playing which brings a happy atmosphere for the viewer. In addition to this when the narrator starts speaking he begins to talk about when sometimes he's annoyed at the world and down he thinks about all the greetings at Heathrow airport because there is such a happy atmosphere so we get the impression that this film may have ups and downs throughout it but the outcome should always be good.

Analysis of The Incredible Hulk(2008) title sequence

               ANALYSIS OF HULK TITLE SEQUENCE

In lesson we discussed and analysed this title sequence from the (2008) movie 'The Incredible Hulk

The 2008 Incredible Hulk film starring Edward Norton is about Bruce Banner trying to find a cure for well... the big green monster he turns in to. We all know the story of Hulk and how he became Hulk and if you don't I think you may have been living under a rock for the past fifty years. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) believes he has found a cure and wishes he can go back to a normal life

The title sequence starts off with loads of comic pictures passing really fast and then 'Marvel Studios' appears across the screen just like any other Marvel movie. It starts off showing X-Rays of Banner and how he progresses into the Hulk which creates a buzz for the audience because that is who they want to see. And for people who don't know about the Hulk then this gives you an insight into the background of what will happen. The soundtrack is non diegetic and it is in time with each cut so it builds up suspense for the audience. Also all the typography is green so we get the sense that the film has a science element to it and also the colour green is very much associated with the main character 'The Hulk.'

The soundtrack begins to build up then stops when it says 'The Incredible Hulk' and then a slight flash of light appears behind it. This can be associated with how Bruce Banner became the hulk with the explosion of the gamma radiation. A couple of shots later we see Bruce Banner in a chair with advanced technology around him and he's in a separate room from all the other scientists which brings an element of anxiousness and excitement to the audience because they think the Hulk is coming.

He then winks at the woman who is outside the room who seems to be helping doing a test on Bruce, This brings the element of love in the atmosphere and that the woman is a damsel in distress when he turns into the Hulk. After a few quick shots the word 'Danger' appears in red which is obviously self explanatory but even more so that it is in red as red can be associated with danger or fear. In the next shot we see a green light going over Bruce's eye and then there is a quick cut to the woman who is staring at him and then Bruce's eyes turns green and he turns into the Hulk. This is ironic because it means that she is the last thing that he saw before he turns into 'The Hulk' meaning she is the one person who he can remember and we know this because when he sees her on the floor injured he puts out his arm in despair but comfort for her so we can recognise that his feelings for her are so strong he remembers her even like that. We never actually get to see the Hulk's face in this sequence neither do we really see him at all. For part of the sequence we see things from the Hulk's point of view.

2 Genre film case study

                              Two Genre Film Case Study

I will be analysing two title sequences from two thriller films. I will be analysing 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', and the second one is 'Shutter Island.'

The first title sequence I will analyse is 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' which is about a journalist who is searching for a woman who has been missing, or dead for forty years.

The title sequence starts off with a blank screen and just the soundtrack playing and then it kicks in with drums to where it comes up saying 'COLUMBIA PICTURES PRESENTS...' Immediately we can recognise that the sound track and the fast pace of the cuts are completely in sink with each other which can build up suspense and draw the audiences attention in and it also expresses the genre of the film in the sense that it is going to be action packed and exciting. With this we also get an insight to the mood of the film with the dark coloured objects and low key lighting.

We can also notice that there is ink that's moving, traveling across tires, the ground etc. and then it all goes into one and wraps around the title, 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.' This is a good relation of the close up of the ink moving because it can infer that the ink on the girls body has an important meaning and people may be after her hence why it is moving. The connotations of death link to the fact that the film has elements of horror in them but it also represents the genre of thriller which is very unique in its simplicity.

A couple of shots into the sequence we see that someone's head is on fire, which links to the fact of thriller and it can also infer that there will be danger. We then later on get to see the dragon which is also in flames. This already tells us that the dragon is an important part of the film and it has a meaning and that its dangerous.

The next film I will now analyse is called 'Shutter Island' which was made in 2010 which tells the story of a man named Teddy Daniels, a US marshal who is investigating the disappearance of a patient from a mental institution off of Shutter Island.

The sequence starts off in a corridor with low-key lighting and a suspenseful soundtrack. It also has credits in the corner which are the colour red which can be associated with danger or fear.
It then cuts to a spiral which can be associated with illusion and how the mind works which links to the films plot.

A few shots later there is a close up of a hand which can resemble identity and this links to the narrative of the film as 'Teddy' is trying to find someone who escaped from 'Shutter Island.' After this a build up and drop of music can be heard and it switches to a long wide shot of a big wall with gates. At first still but then begins to move forward which creates tension for the viewers. Throughout the sequence we can also notice that there is faint white lines and scribbles that appear vividly which can link to the fact that something is broken hence why it is twitching. This can link to the fact of the main character being broken in his mind. I don't want to give away spoilers but for the people who have watched it they know what I mean.

After this we see a shot of a gun and someone stepping on it gently and sliding it away, this cannotes danger which draws the audiences attention in but it can also link to the plot of the film that someone may be trying hide something bad. A dark lit room with lights coming through the door and window is shown, this tells us that there is some sort of prison theme with the metal bars and gate earlier in the sequence.

                      Analysis Of Title Sequence 'Se7en'

In lesson we analysed the title sequence from the film 'Se7en' which is a thriller with trates of horror in.

The film is about two homicide detectives who are hunting for a serial killer who kills his victims warning the world that we are ignoring the seven deadly sins.

The title sequence starts off of a close up on the top of the book and as we suspect it is the killer who is flicking the pages over, however his hands are blurred out and you can't identify them properly which can articulate that the killer is hiding his identity throughout the film. It then goes on to show the killer shaving his finger prints off with a razor so that there is no trace of his DNA so he can't be identified. The way the video is edited with lots of fast pace cuts and the writing moving it articulates that the audience will feel a sense of panic and sort of jump, hence why the typography keeps jumping. Furthermore throughout the sequence there are shades of red which can symbolise death and danger which the film is about. Apart from the shades of red, constantly throughout the sequence it has a low-key lighting to create an early atmosphere

This title sequence is very conventional and you will understand it only if you have seen the film before. I believe it is partly conventional because the way the camera has a close up on a number of objects which symbolises what the detectives will do in the film. The killer is also established during the title sequence as he is the person scribbling things out, drawing over pictures etc.

The tempo of the soundtrack is in time with the cuts which can relate to the killer and the way he commits his crimes, that they are very well planned and the timing is right. Also the soundtrack sounds very distorted, this can also symbolise the character to show that he is broken or messed up. Furthermore when the names of the director and characters are shown they are never just shown in one place they are always moving about which can relate to the film in the sense that the killer is always on the move. Also on the subject of the typography we can see that the font is a handwriting style font. The colouring throughout the sequence is interesting because it brings a sort of gritty feeling which fits perfectly with the film.
