Analysis Of Title Sequence 'Se7en'
In lesson we analysed the title sequence from the film 'Se7en' which is a thriller with trates of horror in.

The film is about two homicide detectives who are hunting for a serial killer who kills his victims warning the world that we are ignoring the seven deadly sins.
The title sequence starts off of a close up on the top of the book and as we suspect it is the killer who is flicking the pages over, however his hands are blurred out and you can't identify them properly which can articulate that the killer is hiding his identity throughout the film. It then goes on to show the killer shaving his finger prints off with a razor so that there is no trace of his DNA so he can't be identified. The way the video is edited with lots of fast pace cuts and the writing moving it articulates that the audience will feel a sense of panic and sort of jump, hence why the typography keeps jumping. Furthermore throughout the sequence there are shades of red which can symbolise death and danger which the film is about. Apart from the shades of red, constantly throughout the sequence it has a low-key lighting to create an early atmosphere
This title sequence is very conventional and you will understand it only if you have seen the film before. I believe it is partly conventional because the way the camera has a close up on a number of objects which symbolises what the detectives will do in the film. The killer is also established during the title sequence as he is the person scribbling things out, drawing over pictures etc.
The tempo of the soundtrack is in time with the cuts which can relate to the killer and the way he commits his crimes, that they are very well planned and the timing is right. Also the soundtrack sounds very distorted, this can also symbolise the character to show that he is broken or messed up. Furthermore when the names of the director and characters are shown they are never just shown in one place they are always moving about which can relate to the film in the sense that the killer is always on the move. Also on the subject of the typography we can see that the font is a handwriting style font. The colouring throughout the sequence is interesting because it brings a sort of gritty feeling which fits perfectly with the film.
