What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When making our title sequence i have learnt a lot about using technologies and using new techniques when editing and filming.
Firstly when we done our first shoot we got the experience of shooting and we realised it would be good to do the same scene but in a number of different shots so when you edit it you have a variety to pick from and not just a limited option that you dot know if it will work or not. A time that this was beneficial for us was when our killer ( Harry ) was sitting down on the table flicking through the book and moving his neck. This allowed our editor ( Max ) to cut the clips up and stick them in different places mid action.
As in charge of Mise-en-scene i fount that we needed a contrast between the killer and the detective which was me. We needed to make sure the audience understood the good vs the evil and we represented this through a number of ways. For example for the killer scene we needed a dark setting with lowkey lighting and dangerous objects such as knives. The dark lowkey lighting links to the fact that when you think of evil you think of the darkness. For this when our cinematographer ( Tommy ) was filming me and Max stood either side of the camera and used our phone for slight lighting on different body parts on our killer. Furthermore when we done the detective scene we needed a conference room so we booked out the English office and filmed in there. Originally we done it in the conference room near reception, however when looking back on the footage when we was going to edit we fount that the footage wasn't very good and it was unfocused, also we were told that it was too bright and we needed it a bit darker. So this time we closed the blinds slightly so that it wasn't too bright and on that day it wasn't very sunny anyway so we had a bit of luck when shooting. It was a lot more lighter than the killer scene to show the contrast from good vs evil which we wanted.
Furthermore, when Max was editing we all learnt a lot from the new software that was introduced to us called 'motion.' As max is experienced in editing he picked up on the software very quickly. He made our title '4Days Later' and it looked really good. However we decided to use another font that we used after because we thought it suited our scene more.
Now having experienced what i have experienced throughout this process i feel have adapted new skills that will benefit me in the future when making films etc.

For our killer (Harry) we wanted him to look very tatty and dirty and bloody. The costume he wore was black jeans, big brown boots and a bloody shirt.
we also got dirt and rubbed it into his hands and mixed it with fake blood to look as if he'd just killed someone. WE done this because we really wanted to get tat gritty look and emphasise the point that he is a killer.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The studio we chose for our film was 'Warner Brothers.' This is because they distribute films with the same genres ours and we needed a big conglomerate to distribute our film out to appeal to a mass audience, and knowing all the success that Warner Brothers have had, we thought that this would be the best option because we know that it will be distributed and marketed to the best it can.
In addition to this our director Matin Scorsese has directed a number of successful Warner Brother films such as, 'GoodFellas', 'The departed' and 'The Aviator.' Two of these films also star our main character 'Leonardo DiCaprio.' This is good because it creates good chemistry in the working environment, and having all worked together before things will run more smoothly and everyone will be more comfortable with each other meaning there will be a greater outcome. In addition to this our main character which is played by 'Leonardo DiCaprio' has huge star power so we already have a pre sold audience as he has a massive fan base, but our plan is to appeal to as much people as we can and make the most money we can so having a big actor an a big conglomerate is vital to the success of the film.

Furthermore, Warner Brothers have also released award winning films that are the same genre as ours such as 'Syriana' and 'The Accountant'. These films had huge success and great reviews from critics and we believe ours will be the same. In addition to this J.K Simmons starred in 'The Accountant' so one of our actors already has experience in working in our chosen company.
In conclusion our first choice was Warner Brothers because they are a big conglomerate that can distribute our film well and also our actors and director have worked within this studio before a number of times.
what would i change?
What would i change?
If i could change anything about the title sequence it would probably be the mise-en-scen aspect to things. This is because we didn't really put much thought into the costume side of it. For my detective scene i could of wore a shirt and tie which would of been more formal and with harry he could of wore a mask or clothes that would be ripped and tattered, these would both emphasise our characters. Further more it would be to find out what we really want straight away and always check the footage properly so that we don't have to keep going back and re shooting which really cuts in our time.
mise en scene for detective scene
Mise-en-scene for detective scene
When doing the detective scene i played as the detective and during this shoot we needed to emphasise the binary opposition. Having already shooting and editing the killer scene we knew what shots we had to do but we also knew which lighting should be used to clearly show the difference between the two characters which is good vs evil. In addition to this the costume i had on was very formal which was a suit and my hair was combed over, this made me look appropriate for the role. For props i had a brief case to emphasise the formality of my character and we printed out pictures and put them on the table for me to look at.
using motion
Experimenting with motion
Motion is a new programme that was recently added in to the schools server so we thought it would be wise to experiment with it and see how it works. With ax being our editor he tried it out and he said that its not hard to work at all its pretty straight forward and because he edits a lot and uses other programmes he caught on to it quickly. We used motion to try edit our fonts and make them better. We were successful as we got the font we liked and edited it so it matched our sequence.
Fonts
Fonts
For our updated version of our title sequence we used the same font which is 'Mistral.' Although in the feedback we were told that maybe a different font should be used, we felt that no other fonts suited our scene. In addition to this we thought that it suited our scene really well.
re shooting investigation scene
Re-shooting the investigation scene
When re-shooting our investigation scene we used mostly the same angles and shots as what we done before but this time we made sure it was more clearer but we also added in some new shots what we thought would be better after watching over the last footage. We booked out the English staff room this time instead of the conference room because it has better natural lighting which suits our sequence more.
feedback 2
Feedback 2
In todays lesson we got feedback for our last showing of our title sequence. The feedback was mostly positive with people saying they really liked the editing and the contrast between the good and the evil which is what we wanted.
Specific bits of editing that people liked was the typography. Unlike most of the groups our text made its way on to the screen instead of just appearing and went off in different directions which worked very well. Another thing they liked was at the end our soundtrack had a lot of drums and with every beat our title of the film appeared a letter at a time in sync with the beat. Another thing which the class really liked was our shot of harry and the strobe light. We put Harry infant of the strobe light and turn the lights off in the room and we just let it flash and filmed it and it outlined Harrys body which was really cool because it suited our genre perfectly.
However, there are some parts that we could improve on. We didn't get enough footage for the detective scene so were doing more soon so in the sequence that we presented there was a black screen for about three seconds where there should be another shot. Furthermore we were told that the font was ok but wasn't that good and we can find much better fonts to suit our sequence.
