ANALYSIS OF HULK TITLE SEQUENCE
In lesson we discussed and analysed this title sequence from the (2008) movie 'The Incredible Hulk
The 2008 Incredible Hulk film starring Edward Norton is about Bruce Banner trying to find a cure for well... the big green monster he turns in to. We all know the story of Hulk and how he became Hulk and if you don't I think you may have been living under a rock for the past fifty years. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) believes he has found a cure and wishes he can go back to a normal life
The title sequence starts off with loads of comic pictures passing really fast and then 'Marvel Studios' appears across the screen just like any other Marvel movie. It starts off showing X-Rays of Banner and how he progresses into the Hulk which creates a buzz for the audience because that is who they want to see. And for people who don't know about the Hulk then this gives you an insight into the background of what will happen. The soundtrack is non diegetic and it is in time with each cut so it builds up suspense for the audience. Also all the typography is green so we get the sense that the film has a science element to it and also the colour green is very much associated with the main character 'The Hulk.'
The soundtrack begins to build up then stops when it says 'The Incredible Hulk' and then a slight flash of light appears behind it. This can be associated with how Bruce Banner became the hulk with the explosion of the gamma radiation. A couple of shots later we see Bruce Banner in a chair with advanced technology around him and he's in a separate room from all the other scientists which brings an element of anxiousness and excitement to the audience because they think the Hulk is coming.
He then winks at the woman who is outside the room who seems to be helping doing a test on Bruce, This brings the element of love in the atmosphere and that the woman is a damsel in distress when he turns into the Hulk. After a few quick shots the word 'Danger' appears in red which is obviously self explanatory but even more so that it is in red as red can be associated with danger or fear. In the next shot we see a green light going over Bruce's eye and then there is a quick cut to the woman who is staring at him and then Bruce's eyes turns green and he turns into the Hulk. This is ironic because it means that she is the last thing that he saw before he turns into 'The Hulk' meaning she is the one person who he can remember and we know this because when he sees her on the floor injured he puts out his arm in despair but comfort for her so we can recognise that his feelings for her are so strong he remembers her even like that. We never actually get to see the Hulk's face in this sequence neither do we really see him at all. For part of the sequence we see things from the Hulk's point of view.
